“Boys Rule” Art Journal and Planner Setup | Photo Tutorial

Hi everyone, it’s me Zeny back on the blog today! I am going to show you how I incorporated this month’s theme “M is for Masculine” on my Art Journal and Planner layouts. Working on this project reminded me how beautiful life is and most of all how lucky I am to have my boys. Being a boy mum is exhilarating with highs and lows and in-betweens. So I made this project all about them.

First, I collected all photos, stickers, ephemera and other materials to decide on my color palette. I love the contrast and color combinations of the products I got for this month’s DT kit.  Aside from the fact that the products are interesting! (All products are tagged down below)

Art Journal

I decided to add some texture to this layout. So, I applied Prima Marketing White Gesso using Tim Holtz Layered Stencil on two corners. I love the pattern of this stencil.

I set it aside to dry. While waiting, I went back to my materials and finalized my selections. I have chosen matching cardstocks and inks from my stash.

Then, I blended the inks on top of the dried gesso to give my layout a masculine look. I used my old make-up brush for blending as an alternative to an ink blending tool.

I went ahead and worked on my layout. I combined two cardstocks to create a border for my boys’ photos. I adhered all materials, layer by layer. I mixed light tones with dark tones to achieve the contrast that I want for this layout.

Then, I doodled some matching patterns and lines with Micron pens, from my previous DT Kit.

Here’s an enlarged view of the stenciled and inked gesso. It gave my layout a more interesting look.

Planner Layout

Next, I worked on my weekly planner layout.

I used the same process. Adhered the selected ephemera from Pinkfresh Studio Boys Fort Cardstock Die-Cuts , used matching washi tapes Pinkfresh Felicity Washi Tape Stickers and Pinkfresh Studio Boys Fort Puffy Stickers, added more and more stickers from my favorite Me & My Big Ideas Create 365 Everyday Happy Planner Sticker Value Pack! I swear I enjoyed every single second spent with this layout.

I used Micron pens to write the dates and Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen to letter the days. These two are such a perfect combination.

To complete my Masculine setup, I made a planner charm out of these Buttons Galore Button Theme Pack – Music, that were included in my March DT Kit. Oh, these are the cutest! Neelu really knows that my family and I are so much into Music.

I instantly thought of turning them into a charm when I first saw them in my kit. If you are following me on my IG page, then you would know that I make polymer clay charms too.

So, I took out my tools and silver findings to make the charm.

I assembled it, piece by piece, and Viola!

I also made a small charm for my TN which I also use as a stitch marker for my Crochet projects.

It looks perfect on my Prima Travel Journal (from my previous DT kit) too!

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed reading and I can’t wait to share with you more of my creations. Don’t forget to visit  PPSUAE Blogsite for more inspirations.

Until next time!

xoxo, Zeny Liz
