Cork Coaster to MixedMedia Floral WallArt

Hi Friends,

Am SathyaKala here from Paperie Expressions . I have an altered artwork today, from 8″ round cork coaster to a Mixedmedia Floral WallArt.

Let’s get started!

That is one of Tim Holtz Vignette frames sent to me in this month DT  kit.

Gave a nice coat of several layers of white heavy gesso on the coaster and on its sides.

PPS recently launched their own line of stamps and this pretty doodling stamp by our past DT Ing has been sent to me in my DT kit.

Nielouphar has recently shared Stamping techniques on our YouTube channel.

Added here few tips in using Clear stamps:

  1. To get a clear impression, use an eraser to rub over the stamp surface first before taking up the ink.

  2. To a brand new stamp set, first stamp using Versamark ink followed by the colour ink pads for a clean crisp impression of stamping.

  3. Can be stamped over a variety of surfaces such as Paper, wood, Vellum, Heat Resistant Acetate sheets and on paper clay too.

  4. Stamped images can be colored by various colouring mediums such as Alcohol markers, Watercolor brush pens, Colored pencils etc.

And back to the project. I have white heat embossed the Doodle stamp set on a heat resistant acetate here.

Applied Prima white texture crackle paste over the frame followed by a generous addition of mini art stones while the surface was wet. Then it’s colored using Nuvo embellishment mousse, which adds a metallic sheen to the whole frame surface.

This pic clearly shows the crackled textures and the grainy textures made by artstones.

Used a stencil to apply the white crackle paste over the surface and at few places directly using a palette knife. Left it for air drying.

Above pics shows the clear crackles.

Applied water to the stenciled surface. Took Nuvo mica mist, Turkish rose on a palette and applied over the watered down areas. Nuvo mica mist sprays have mica powder and coloring pigment, which adheres to the surface to give a beautiful lustre effect. Followed by the pink mist, several layers of various mists were added to make base colors.

This is how the white heat embossed heat-resistant acetate sheet is cut down to fit this textured frame.

Added the textured frame to the base with a Prima doily die cut. And arranged Prima flowers from my DT kit with various chipboards, misted cheesecloth, colored Prima melange, misted green moss, while tulle, pink pearl string from my stash. Prima art stones and mini art stones are added using Prima 3D matte gel near to the embellishments.

Few stamping was done randomly using black archival inks around the floral clusters. Fussy cut few butterflies from Prima designer paper and added as accents.

Added generous splashes of white gesso and Prima art alchemy sparks – Dragon’s eye for the lustrous sheen.

Colored chipboard word – Smile is added as the focal element on the frame to draw attention over to that portion of the wall art.

Finally wrapped the edges of cork coaster with beige crocheted lace.

Few close up pics  to show the detailing and textures.

That’s the tiny floral cluster with loads of tiny embellishments to balance the main floral arrangement.

Hope you like the project as much as i love doing it.

Shoot your queries if any, will answer to my best.

Happy Crafting!
