DIY FESTIVE WALL ART | How to Create a Motivational and Inspirational Home Decor

Hi everyone! This is Zeny Liz of JZ Designs and Creations. Today, I am going to show you how I made my Festive Wall Art for this month’s theme “Anything Festive”. You have until the end of June to participate and get a chance at winning a prize pack worth AED50.

Creating home décor pieces is one of the things that excites me. There is something magical about it. Its amazing how every piece allows you to customize each space in your home and make them more stylish, especially when its handmade. It is always fun to give your home a mini make over, especially on festive seasons… because there is no place like home! This month’s theme is very timely for me and my family. We have a lot to celebrate this month and I am beyond grateful.

Let me start by showing you my June DT Kit. All these items (and all other items used in this blog post) are linked down below.

In this project, I spent a good amount of time on the background/border. Good thing I’m on my annual leave, so I allowed myself to get lost in the moment. Believe me, I had a lot of fun!

I normally conceptualize by doing a light sketch, that serves as my guide in putting all the elements together. And to convey this month’s theme, I used fruits instead of a floral border. I used Canson Watercolor paper XL 140lb, and I’d say this paper is awesome! It works beautifully and it has a durable surface that withstands repeated washes.

Next, I plan my color scheme. I incorporated these fun and festive colors. I used Prima Marketing Watercolor Confections : The Classics; and I love how vibrant, intense yet smooth the colors are in this palette. And this palette works beautifully with Canson Watercolor paper.

Then, I went ahead and started to paint layer by layer. I started with light colors to dark ones. Some layers were air-dried, especially those light washes. And I used my heat gun for those layers that are more opaque or solid.

I also added some splatter and touches of Finetec Pearl Watercolors to add a metallic sheer and accentuate the whole piece.

After finishing the fruit-inspired background/border, I started to letter. I combined two of my favorite lettering techniques to create my statement -– the pointed pen calligraphy and the embossing technique. I used my Speedball Signature Series Pointed Pen with a hand crafted gold plated Hunt Globe #513EF pen nib and the black pigmented acrylic ink that came in the same set. I did a modern calligraphy on the top two lines and embossed the words “Life” and “Love” to highlight them. I applied the same embossing technique that I used on my previous blog post, but this time I lettered with the Clear Emboss It pen.

Here’s to show you some of the Embossing details.

And viola! My motivational and inspirational Festive Wall Art.

This will be great to use as a wall décor, and also makes a great present for your family and friends.

May we always Celebrate Life and Love! We all need that extra reminder every now and then.

Cheers!

Zeny Liz
