DIY Ramadan Home Decor using Watercolors & Paper Flowers | Photo Tutorial

Hello crafters! Ramadan Mubarak to you all! Anjali here from ‘thelettersofanarchitect’ and for this month’s “Floral” theme I’ve decided to create an Eid-countdown Ramadan decor piece using the gorgeous items I received in my DT kit. I was also super excited as I opened this month’s kit as I received the three different stamps designed by me! I have tried to incorporate one of the background stamps in my project as well.

The following are the list of supplies I used in this project:

This was my first time using a watercolor panel and paper flowers in a project and I must say I loved both. The watercolor panel looks like a canvas but you can paint on it like watercolor paper and it can be hung or kept standing once finished.

For this Ramadan Decor project, after penciling in the first sketch, I used a watercolor wash technique with plastic film for the background.
For this I used the plastic which cased the prima paper flowers, you could also use a zip-lock bag for this.

Just put droplets of watercolor on it then use a Mini Mister spray bottle to mist water on it. I used the new Prima Watercolor Confections Watercolor Pans -Woodlands Palette.

Then flatten it on the panel and voila! Your watercolor wash background is ready. You can mix any colors of your choice to get interesting results.

After the wash was dry, I used the Islamic Pattern Clear Background Stamp with Winsor & Newton Gold and applied on top to create a golden pattern on top.

Next, I used the Hero Hues Iris Folded Cards and cut out a circle and laminated it to be stuck in the center using double-sided tape. The lamination allows you to write the number of days on it using a Dry-erase marker and the days left can be changed as many times as you like. I used white gouache paint to write the number on since this can also be wiped off with a baby wipe and re-written again.

After that, I painted some watercolor floral elements like leaves and buds which will complement the look of the Prima Marketing Cherry Blossom Paper Flowers, which are stuck on after the paint has dried. I used a double-sided tape to stick them on.

Finally, I lettered in ‘Days till Eid’ using Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Twin Tip Pen and finished it with a gold border on either side using Yellow Gold from Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi Starry Colors set.

I erased all the pencil lines and that’s it! You have a beautiful home decor with life-like florals to remind you every day to make the most of the Holy month.
