DIY Watercolor Thank You Card with Gold Banner | Photo Tutorial

Hello, creatives and crafters! Anjali here from The Letters of an Architect and I’m here with a new Watercolor DIY Thank You card for this month. The theme for April being Pretty Paper Studio’s birthday month is ‘Anything Goes’ and I have used my Prima Watercolor Confections “Tropicals” palette and Kuretake Gansai Tambi Starry Colors which came in my DT kit to create this vibrant handmade Watercolor Thank You card with a Gold Banner. I also used some of the items from my previous DT kits.

Here is the complete list of supplies used in this project:

I started with taping up the watercolor sheet borders to the work surface using painters tape. I then applied a water wash all over the paper. It absorbs the moisture real quick so re-wet the paper accordingly.

Now using the wet-on-wet technique apply desired watercolors from the Prima Marketing Watercolor Confections: Tropicals palette. I mixed hues of blue and green for the base then while it was still wet, applied turquoise paint in spirals and Deep blue in the center of the spirals.

Dab on some of the Yellow gold from the Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi 6 Color Set, Starry Colors for a little sparkle and wait for the paint to dry.

Once the background is done, we work on making the banner by first sketching out the outline using pencil very lightly, then using Masking fluid over it. You can also write in your sentiment in the center of the banner by using the Speedball calligraphy holder and nib.

Once the Masking Fluid has dried, you can paint in the banner using Yellow gold and Red Gold pigments.  The Princeton Artist Angular Shader 3/8-Select Brush helps paint with precision thanks to its sharp tip. Remove the masking fluid after the paint has dried and your banner is ready.

Now we just need to cut it out using scissors and paste it on to the background using glue or double-sided tape.

Now remove the painter’s tape and the Thank You Card is ready!

And that’s the finished work. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I enjoyed creating it! Do let us know your feedback or queries in the comments below. Until next time,

Anjali.
