Easy No-heat Foiling Techniques for your Art Journal | Photo Tutorial

Hi everyone, it’s me Zeny back on the blog today! I am going to show you how I incorporated this month’s theme “Anything goes” in my Art Journal. But first, Happy 6th birthday Pretty Paper Studio! Cheers to more years!

Foiling is always fun. It adds a touch of glamour to everything. It makes every design more elegant and sophisticated. There are lots of techniques out there, but today, I will be showing you some easy methods that I normally use in my journals. I made two layouts — Silver and Gold color schemes.

For the Silver color scheme layout, I used the following techniques:

Foil with Stencil and Prima Marketing Soft Gloss Gel

I applied Prima Marketing Soft Gloss Gel using a plastic palette knife on my Art Gone WIld Tim Holtz Layered Stencil (all from my previous DT Kits).

I allowed the gel to dry clear.

Then, I cut a piece of Thermoweb Deco Foil – Iridescent, just enough to cover the area. I placed the foil on top – pretty-face up or color-side up, and I used my fingers to press the foil in, a little firm, to keep it in place.

I burnished with my finger all over the area, a little harder. A bone folder can be used for this step. In my case, I used my Silhouette Scraper Tool (coz I couldn’t find one from our local craft shops). I burnished over it a couple of times to get the best result.

Then, I slowly peeled the foil off, leaving a beautifully foiled pattern on my layout. TIP: Make sure that the gel or glue is dry before you put the foil on top so that it doesn’t smear when burnishing.

Add Foil to your Die-cuts and Ephemera

I grabbed a “LOVE” die-cut Pinkfresh Studio (from my previous DT Kit) and added some touches of glamour on it. I used Tombow Mono Glue Pen Permanent to write on the die-cut, then immediately placed the foil on top since this glue pen dries quickly.

I did the same procedure as above. I burnished with my finger and scraper tool.

This glue pen is really amazing. It creates a strong and clean bond. It allows precise and pinpoint gluing, so perfect for detailed gluing.

I adhered the die-cut using my Tombow Mono Adhesive Dispenser Permanent.

Foil your lettering and designs

Because of my love for lettering, this technique became my favorite. Expect more foiled lettering posts in my IG lol!

I sketched “Celebrate” using my pencil. Then, I traced it over with Thermoweb Deco Foil Adhesive Pen.

I allowed it to dry a little, then I placed the foil on top of the lettered area. I once again burnished with my finger then with my scraper tool. The result is just magical.

I added more dots, just because I enjoyed this method a lot.

So much dimension and texture in this layout which made it a gorgeous one. I love how each technique added a vintage look to this layout.

For the Gold color scheme layout, I used this technique.

Foil with Silhouette Cameo 2 and Printable Adhesive Sheet

I got a Silhouette Printable Adhesive Sheet – Gold foil in my DT Kit. I made a personalized sticker/ ephemera for this layout. I designed “Hello Beautiful” using Photoshop and Silhouette Studio. I cut it out using my Silhouette Cameo 2.

I’d say this Gold foil is super pretty! Apart from it being an adhesive sheet, it’s printable too! How amazing is that? I tried printing on it using my inkjet printer and lettered on it using my Pentel fude touch brush pen and it absolutely worked well. This product is perfect for labels, tags, planner embellishments, die-cuts and ephemera, stickers and so much more.

I used a transfer tape to collect the letters from my matt, to perfectly adhere the letters on my journal layout.

I decorated my layout with some matching die-cuts available in my stash.

Then, lined with Sharpie Gold Marker and wrote with White Gelly Roll pen. I love how this layout turned out.

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed reading and I can’t wait to share with you more of my creations. Don’t forget to visit  PPSUAE Blogsite for more inspirations.

Until next time!

xoxo, Zeny Liz
