Handmade Birthday Card for Him – Photo Tutorial

Hey crafters! This is Jehan from JeCrafts back again on the blog for this month’s project. This month’s theme is “M is for Masculine “. It was a little tricky for me to figure how to incorporate this theme into my lettering project. But as a crafter isn’t it fun to squeeze out your creative juices and try out different things. Thank you, PPS, for this opportunity every month.

This is my first time in card making. Being a crafter my love for handmade products has increased. Especially when it comes to cards or gifts that are for your loved ones. A handmade card is more meaningful to the recipient and just as attractive as any store-bought card. They are unique and always express more love and affection. Every handmade card is a work of art.  When you send one of these cards, you are sending an emotional piece of yourself.

I decided for this month to make a birthday card for Him. The color theme of my card was based on the Tombow Dual Brush Pens set – Galaxy palette send by PPS for this month’s kit.

Firstly, we prepare the main elements of the card which are the feathers. We trace the feathers on a cardstock. Cut them out. Then color them using the Tombow brush pens. In order to get a galaxy effect. Color the different colors next to each other and them blend them using a water brush pen. Then using a Uniball Signo White Gel pen highlight the borders. Also using Ph Martins Bleed proof spatter some white dots for the galaxy effect.

The second elements are small stars cut out from glitter foam sheets. Using Sizzix Small Paper Punch by Tim Holtz – Star cut out the glitter star from the foam sheets.

The next is the ‘Happy birthday’ tag. In a small piece of cardstock letter ‘Happy Birthday ‘. Take another cardstock slightly bigger than the previous one. Stick a washi tape to make a background for the tag. Now we stick them together and the final one looks like below.

Now we prepare the background of the card. I choose Green, Turquoise and Ultramarine colors from the palette. Take a plastic zip lock bag/sandwich baggie and color small splotches using the brush pens. Wet the paper with water spray/water brush pen. Press the plastic bag, colored side down, on top of the wet surface, so the ink bleeds throughout. Smash as needed with your fingertips to spread the color. Pull the plastic up to reveal the texture. In case you use a water spray to wet the surface, you may need to remove excess water if any. To add more effect to the background, sprinkle some watercolor paint after the surface has completely dried.

Now we finally stick all the elements together. To make the final look more appealing we add in more elements like a bow made with twine and washi tapes.

Finally, we letter the quote ‘you are my shining star” using Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen – soft tip.

Here is the final look of my handmade card for him.
