A little about me, I live in Pune, India and after having served in the Indian Air Force for ten years, I took a release from the service this June. Now I am a stay at home mom, who loves to craft. I love to make cards and though I am quite a newbie and am yet discovering and enjoying all the different styles, I have an inclination towards Clean and Simple designs. The stamps by Pretty Paper Studio are amazing! I love how versatile the designs are. There are layering stamps, solid stamps as well as the ones which you can colour! I have played with 3 such stamps and I have a picture tutorial for one card.
I Will Owl-ways Love You Clear Stamp Set
I love this stamp and the illustration of this owl gives a great opportunity to get you to practice colouring and try different colour combinations.
1. I took an A5 size Khadi paper (150 gsm) and stamped the owl in Ranger Archival Ink – Jet Black (the ink will depend on the colouring medium you choose to colour the stamp with). I wanted to use pencil colours and because these Khadi Papers have amazing texture and tooth, I chose them. These papers are great for water colouring too.
2. However, because of the texture on the paper, the impression from a stamp is difficult to get at one go, so I used Tim Holtz – Tonic Stamp platform, for a precise impression.
3. Then I coloured my owl with pencil colours. And took my time to colour! It was so therapeutic. I even gave my toddler a stamped image to colour with his crayons and he enjoyed it too.
4. After the therapeutic colouring, came the work out session. Blending for the night sky! I used Distress Inks in five colours, for my sky (you can do it with Distress Oxides too, I used the colours I had in my stash). From light to dark – Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Blueprint Sketch, Hickory Smoke and Ground Espresso. I used Canson Bristol Paper’s smooth side for blending (15x 10.5 cms). Before blending I cut a circle mask with a masking paper (post-it note or masking fluid works as well) and adhered on the top right corner, to keep the area from getting any ink from the blending.
5. I started with the light application of Tumbled glass distress ink and the went ahead with the next darker shade – Broken China.
6. Then I blended outwards with other darker colours. The tip while blending that I can give is, repeating colours. Like when blending tumbled glass (1), and broken china (2), go over like 1-2-1 to get a seamless blend.
7. Work up those biceps and blend till you achieve the desired look. So after I was happy, I removed the mask and the contrast worked. Then I made some stars with a white gel pen and heat embossed the sentiment with the white embossing powder. I would like you to check if the blended background has dried completely by putting some embossing powder before stamping the sentiment with Versamark. Let the inks dry or use a Heat Tool to dry the blending before heat embossing.
8. I cut my coloured owl along the stamped edge and coloured the edge with a black pen. Then I mounted it on foam dots and adhered over my moonlit sky. And mounted the whole scene over a yellow cardstock giving a 2 mm border at all sides.
So you see, it may look like a lot of work but it isn’t much and it gives great results. I plan to get it framed, you can mount it on a top/side folded card base too and make it as a card.
Anjali’s Florals Clear Stamp Set
Rose 1 – I stamped all the layering elements of the rose for this card.
Rose 2 – This card used 2 layers of the rose, one inked and the other embossed in gold.
Rose 3 – This card is using only one layer of the rose and a Tombow marker or any water-based marker to colour the stamp.
Shruti’s Tulips Clear Stamp Set
This stamp is a solid stamp and I used two inks to shade the stamped images.
