Hello crafters! This is Zeyna from Mummy On My Mind back with another Mom & Child craft, this time creating a project for November.
The theme for this month is “Acrylics”,and I have to say that Acrylics are by far my favourite medium of paints so I was very excited to get painting. I usually have a rough idea of what myself and Master Z are going to create with these projects before I get started, however this time, I let the tide take me away. I let Master Z loose with acrylics to create beautiful textures on the canvas and then worked on it to create something magical.

The first step was to get some paint on the canvas. If I was given the acrylic paints and a canvas, I would no doubt be very careful and linear with my brush strokes, but because I wanted to be inspired by my son’s work, I let him loose with the paints.
He first painted the entire canvas yellow, and then added brown paint to the bottom third of the canvas. It was vivid and incredibily “messy”, but that’s just what I wanted because my favourite thing about acrylics is it’s buildable texture.
I loved the contrast and texture Master Z created with the acrylics paint, and the above instantly made me think of yellow sunshine and brown forest, so I asked Master Z to sprinkle some Green “Mown Grass” glitter on the bottom half of the canvas before the brown paint dried up, to create a “moss” and greenery of the “forest” that I had envisioned.
You can clearly see the textures as the paint dried in the below photo.
For the next step, I let Master Z go crazy with the Nuvo sprays, spritzing away with the spray can as well as dropping larger blobs on to the canvas using a toothbrush. I love the metallic shine of these sprays, which really add a layer of magic to your work.
Once the canvas was dry, it was time to experiment with some heat embossing. This being my very first time exploring the art of heat embossing, I was a little worried whether the stamp prints would translate on to the canvas well, but thankfully it did.
Using the Altenew Freeform greenery stamp set, and the Versamark stamp pad, I created these beautiful embossed prints with gold embossing powder straight on top of the acrylic painted canvas.
The outcome is stunning, especially when the light hits the canvas and makes it glint in some areas over others. I can see myself getting very addicted to heat embossing!
I felt like the canvas needed some final touches, so I created some “stars” using the Poska Paint Marker in white (using the tip of a toothpick to create the lines for the stars) and also wrote a beautiful quote which I thought went well with the forest theme I had going on.
As I wanted this piece to reflect the textures that acrylic paints create, I wrote the quote on some white tissue paper and layered it with gold tissue paper below it, before adhering it on to the canvas itself.
And voila, here is the final masterpiece below! I absolutely love the way it turned out, especially as for the first time, I didn’t really know what I was aiming for and wanted the artwork to inspire me. What do you think of it?
