Hi CraftyPeeps,
SathyaKala here again from Paperie Expressions. As this month challenge theme is “Anything goes” and its our store’s Birthday month, love to experiment bit more on different substrate and with loads of layerings and collaging with different elements.
You can view my earlier mixed media artworks on different substrates such as Layout, Wreath in Shadow Box, Altered wooden box, Double Canvas, Thick Layered Chipboard as bases.
And now, its an Altered Art with 6″ Stryofoam heart and Mixed media makeover.
Let’s get started.
First covered the styrofoam heart with heavy gesso and followed by it added White crackle pastes on the peripheral portions for the textures in random fashion.
As we deal with Stryofoam, care must be taken while using heatgun for drying up or hotglue gun for glueing. Over heating may deform the shape of the stryofoam.
Took IOD mould and dusted with talcum powder first, which will aid in easy removal of formed pieces later. Then used airdry clay to obtain the desired shapes. Let this for few minutes to air dry, and got the moulded shapes. These shapes can now be used as such else misted with colors or even cut to use the bits and pieces as desired. These shapes give an excellent look for any mixed mixed artworks with any medium.
Took 12×12 Designer paper which i got in earlier DT kit and fussy cut the beautiful foiled floral pieces for my layerings.
Now the fun part of layerings and collaging started. Took a white Tulle and added it centrally. Topped it with few chipboard Tags and with bits and pieces of IOD moulded pieces.
Above close ups shows the developed crackles and the pretty textural base on styrofoam.
Added mini and regular artstones at desired places for more textures and white gessoed it completely. After completely dried, misted with Heidi Swapp Pink mist : Blush and watered down at few places. It started to reveal the underlying textures of Tulle, crackles etc.,
Arranged the floral fussy cut elements on the chipboard Tag bases and added bits of laces tucked in-between the layerings for fullness.
Further added Prima flowers from my DT kit and also from my stash. Took few leaves, flourishes chipboards from my stash, misted with Heidi Swapp seafoam green mist from my DT kit and used those in-between the fussy cut elements.
To reveal the underlying gorgeous textures, applied waxes in Rosegold and Vintage gold in adequate interval to avoid the mixing of colors.
Centrally placed a geometric heart chipboard which was colored with Impasto Crimson from my DT kit. Chitchat sticker added to the chipboard heart as the focal element.
Liberally misted with white gesso splatters, followed by Dragon eye sparkle gold splatters to bring all together. Added few melange Prima pebbles, colored with Gold sparkle paint and tucked in the floral spray.
Further added pink heart sequins, art stones mini and regular over the embellishments as accents.
Few more closer shots to show the layerings and collaging of elements.
Following pics shows the gorgeous typical cellular structures of stryofoam at few places and majorily the crackled textures highlighted by waxes.
Hope you are inspired enough to try out with the objects around you and to convert them into art pieces with Mixed media touches.
Shoot queries if any, will answer to my best.
Enjoy crafting!
