Hi Friends,
This is Sathya from Paperie Expressions. Ramadan Kareem to all our blog visitors.
This month’s challenge theme is “Anything Festive” and I have altered a wooden lantern with a mixed media makeover.
Let’s get started.
Have chosen a wooden lantern for my project as it had flat surfaces for the mixed media pastes to spread and to bring about the pretty textures.
Took Prima IOD moulds for the embellishments. Created few using Prima paper clay and kept for air drying.
Meanwhile, using the brush, applied Finnabair stone effect paste generously on the entire outer surface of the lantern and kept for air drying.
Using the spatula, added white crackle pastes on the neck of the lantern for the added textures. And left for air dry.
After the surfaces are completely dry, applied Prima black heavy gesso over the entire inner and outer surface of Lantern. The jute handle is also brushed with black gesso.
After the gesso dried, start with adding IOD mould embellishments with few other metal embellishmens i had in my stash. To the IOD moulds, added Finnabair Art pebbles were also added. These were all given a nice neat coat of Prima Black heavy gesso.
Then a series of Waxes were applied, each at an interval for drying and to avoid mixing up of colors. Finally, the handle is added to the handle.
To the inner surface of lantern, wanted to give a patterned look when the light was lit using battery operated tealight. Roughly calculated the height and inner circumference of lantern. Took a heat resistant acetate sheet and gold heat embossed the recently launched Ing’s Doodle stamp. Missed out areas are corrected using Versamark watermark pen. This acetate sheet is then kept inside the lantern. It gives out a warm glow when the tealight is added to it.
Some more closer shot of the textured highlighted surfaces.
This is how the inside looks after the additon of the heat embossed acetate sheet and the tealight lit.
Did you see how gorgeous is this stamped acetate sheet inside lantern!
That’s all from me for today. Hope you like this mixedmedia makeover. You can apply the same procedures for any stuffs around you to give a mixedmedia touch and turn it into an artistic homedecor.
